Have you ever wondered how a pine needle basket is made? I will be giving a free half hour demo July 8 at 12:30 at NY2CA Gallery in Benicia which is open to all. Afterwards we’ll walk through my pine needle sculptures in the Gallery, and you’ll have a chance to ask any questions you may have. The demo will be repeated at 1:30 and 2:30.
In the demo I’ll talk about how to find and prepare the needles, where and how to start the basket, how to make even coils, what “thread” to use, and how to do a single stitch, which travels beautifully up the side of a small vessel. I’ll have a “practice” vessel started for audience members to each share the experience making a few stitches. We’ll pass this around and let it grow as a group project and see what we have at the end of the day.
For additional art fun, Benicia will be having an Art Walk from 12 – 4pm that day, with six other galleries within walking distance.
617 - 1st Street, Benicia
First Demo starts at 12:30
